What means device provisioning? Why this feature is so important?
Modified By support on 7/30/2007 2:29:48 PM)

The device provisioning term stands for device configuration.
Long after the NAVmobile solution is deployed, the organization may need to change some settings over the mobile devices, which runs the NAVmobile  Mobile Application. The need for change is always there, just because the business environment is constanlty evolving.
That the organization may need to change? It may be  like updating the NAVmobile Mobile Application with a new version, setting up a new e-mail account on the device, installing new applications, changing GPRS/WAP settings , changing the device locale, etc.
In general, if the organization need to change something on the device it has to get the devices back to office, perform the device configurations and return them back to the mobile workers. Such a process may be expensive, slow and usually blocks the dailly business operations of the organization, which in turn may cause significant expenses and loses.

Fortunately, the NAVmobile Solution allows to perform varios operation on the device remotely - no need to get the devices back in-house. The process is called  OTA(over-the-air) provisioning and may cause dramatic maintainance costs reducing.
The NAVmobile OTA Provisioning feature allows the organization to treat changes as a part of their business process rather than unwanted but rquired exception. The NAVmobile OTA Provisioning feature allows the organization to look upon the need for change, as a continues strategic business advantage.

Using the NAVmobile OTA Provisiong feature, you may perform the following activities remotely:

  • Create/Change/Delete Pocket Outlook e-mail accounts
  • Create/Change/Delete Internet Explorer Mobile Favorites
  • Setup connectivity settings(GPRS,VPN,WiFi,WAP,MMS, Bluethoot,etc)
  • Add/Change/Delete keys and values from the Windows Mobile's registry
  • Setup device's clock
  • Setup device' security settings (certificates, policies, roles, etc)
  • Perform file and directory operations( Delete,Copy,Move,Create,CAB Extract)
  • Change device's regional settings
  • Uninstall applications
  • Change TAPI settings(e.g. change the varios GSM settings)
  • Execute .EXE files
  • Install CAB files (e.g. installing applications)
  • Download remote files through HTTP/FTP
  • Change various settings specific to the NAVmobile functional modules installed on the device
  • Create mobile databases on the device
  • Execute Sql statements against the mobile database
